Philadelphia is a city that is rich in history and there is no shortage of famous people who bought, sold or currently live in Philadelphia homes.

Whether it’s living the high life in high rise condo towers or rubbing elbows with CEOs on the Main Line, there are plenty of places famous people call home in the Philly area. Now, when you have cash like these folks do, you probably have other properties elsewhere too. I mean, we all love Philly but if you could get away to somewhere warm during January and February, you would too!

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the more notable Philly home owners.

Benjamin Franklin

When we were putting this list together we considered not including historical figures like Mr. Franklin, but how can we not? Franklin is more synonymous with Philadelphia than cheese-steaks!

Unfortunately, the only former Franklin residence that still stands today is the appropriately named “Benjamin Franklin House” located in London, England just outside of Trafalgar Square. While Franklin did spend much of his time here and elsewhere abroad, the area now called Franklin Court was his stomping grounds from 1763 until his death in 1790.

The residence was demolished in 1812 and from the 1950’s on, the Park Service began purchasing lots around the old house. Now it has been transformed into a complex of museums and other historic sites.

Jeff Lurie

The billionaire owner of the Philadelphia Eagles of course has a casa near his team. Lurie’s 13-acre estate known as Inwood was the previous residence of publisher and philanthropist Walter Annenberg.

Take a look at what you get for a reported $14 million.

Patti LaBelle

This singer, actress, author, business woman and “Godmother of Soul” was not only born in Philadelphia but also still has a house in the suburbs of Wynnewood.

Georges Perrrier

If the gridiron isn’t your scene, maybe you’ll be more impressed with the 5 bedroom, 6 bath, 9,000 square foot home of famous chef Georges Perrier. He calls Chestnut Hill home and for the $2.1 million he paid for this beauty you also get a 2,000 bottle wine cellar and gourmet kitchen (of course).

Terrance Howard

Layfayette Hill is home to this actor who is best known for his roles in movies like Hustle & Flow, Iron Man and Ray as well as his lead role in the hit TV series Empire.

Mary Alice Dorrance Malone

While Mary Alice Dorrance Malone might not be a household name, the Campbell soup brand  that makes this billionaire heiress one of the richest people in the country certainly is. Her Coatsville estate might be more than a stone’s throw from Philly but its magnificent enough to merit listing here.

When your place is so big you need aerial photography to fit it all in, then life is good.

M. Night Shyamalan

The writer and director of such films as The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs likes to include Philadelphia in his movie, so we have to include him in this list. While not exactly living in Philadelphia proper, Mr. Shyamalan calls Willistown, Pa his home.
